Anxiety is a feeling of worry, nervousness or fear that occurs in response to a perceived threat, uncertainty or stress. Anxiety is a normal emotion and can involve a mix of feelings (worry or fear), thoughts (anticipating something going wrong) and physical reactions (such as a racing heart or muscle tension). Anxiety becomes problematic when it is excessive, persistent and interferes with daily life.
Therapy can be effective in managing anxiety by helping individuals understand the causes of their anxiety and learn practical techniques to manage. The process can help people to understand their anxiety, gradually face fears and develop healthier patterns of thinking and behaviour.
